Students began their training on fire safety in the auditorium. Beaver Township Firefighters presented a video about fire safety. They explained the protective gear they wear in a fire and allowed a volunteer to try on the gear.
First grade students were then able to examine the fire trucks and ambulances outside. They were educated about the equipment used in emergencies and had an opportunity to go inside an ambulance. Students visited a special teaching tool, a smoke house, which is a valuable tool to show children how to escape a house fire. This smoke house trailer uses non-toxic smoke and a fog machine to simulate the environment.
The students later listened to firefighters as they explained how to be safe at home (or in a classroom.) The first graders were able to learn first hand about fire safety as they concluded a weeklong firesafety study.
